Supporting Reproductive Rights Access Beyond Oregon
State statutes and constitutional amendments largely protect reproductive health rights and protect medical providers for those living in Oregon. This protects Oregonians despite federal restrictions on reproductive healthcare. Unfortunately, these same protections are not in place in many states across the US. Helping other states to enshrine these same rights builds a geographic safety net, shields traveling patients and local doctors from criminal prosecution, and equalizes health care access across state lines when federal protections are absent.
RRCO is contributing to this effort far beyond Oregon's borders and is supporting a postcard writing campaign alongside Virginians for Reproductive Freedom. This coalition of Virginia families, doctors, nurses, and advocacy organizations is working to ensure citizens can make reproductive health care decisions free from government interference. Currently, the Virginia Constitution does not recognize the right to reproductive health care. RRCO members and volunteers are sending handwritten postcards on behalf of this coalition to encourage Virginia voters to choose “YES” on November 3rd. This “YES” vote amends the current state constitution to protect freedoms in reproductive health choices and protect healthcare providers and their patients from being punished for reproductive health decisions.
