State leaders, through Oregon’s Emergency Board, have granted emergency funding to Oregon’s two Planned Parenthood affiliates who are prohibited from receiving reimbursements from Medicaid. Although this news is very welcome and we are deeply grateful for the state’s support, this funding only helps fill part of the gap left by lost Medicaid reimbursements, and it isn’t enough to keep care uninterrupted long-term.
In July, the federal reconciliation bill, HR1, stripped Planned Parenthood affiliates, including PPCW, of Medicaid reimbursement - jeopardizing access to patient care. Medicaid covered nearly 70% of PPCW’s patient visits, so this political attack created serious challenges for our organization and for the patients who rely on us for care.
As a safety net provider, patients turn to Planned Parenthood when no other care is available. The State of Oregon recognized Planned Parenthood’s unique and critical role in Oregon’s in providing life-sustaining care and has stepped up with emergency financial support.
Join us for a virtual town hall at 4pm on Monday, November 24 to hear from Dr. Sara Kennedy, CEO of Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette and Amy Handler, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon, who will discuss our local response to HR1 and the evolving environment, and our determination to keep our doors open and provide patient care, no matter what.
